About the Park
The Rottaler Volksfest in Pfarrkirchen is an outstanding example of Lower Bavarian festival culture and is the social highlight of the spring. Every year around Whitsun weekend, the extensive grounds of the historic trotting track are transformed into a lively festival area that uniquely combines tradition and modern entertainment. As the festival takes place at one of the region's most famous racecourses, there is always a touch of sporting history in the air, giving the folk festival a very special, expansive atmosphere that is rarely found at inner-city festival grounds.
At the heart of the action is the large festival tent, where Bavarian cosiness is the order of the day. This is where locals and visitors meet to enjoy regional specialities and tasty festival beer, while Bavarian brass bands and modern party bands provide the perfect musical backdrop. The ceremonial entrance of the festival hosts and breweries with their magnificently decorated carriages traditionally marks the beginning of the celebrations and underlines the festival's deep roots in local customs.
The amusement mile offers a colourful mix of state-of-the-art rides and nostalgic classics that have something for every age group. While adrenaline junkies get their money's worth on fast-paced attractions, families enjoy a leisurely ride on the Ferris wheel, which offers a magnificent view over the Rottal valley. The offer is complemented by numerous game booths and shooting galleries that invite visitors to linger and try their luck.
In terms of cuisine, the Rottal Folk Festival remains true to its roots and offers a rich selection of typical delicacies, ranging from grilled fish on a stick and classic grilled duck to sweet treats such as roasted almonds and freshly made doughnuts. With special theme days that appeal specifically to senior citizens, families or businesses, the festival remains an important social anchor point for the entire region and retains its charming, down-to-earth character.
