Papenburg - Augustmarkt

The Papenburg August Market is a traditional folk festival that is one of the largest funfairs in the Emsland region and has a history dating back over 300 years. It is an integral part of the annual calendar of events in Papenburg.

The festival transforms the Untenender market square into a colourful and lively festival mile that offers a perfect blend of traditional flair and modern attractions.

Rides and entertainment: There is a wide range of rides for all age groups. These include classics such as bumper cars and a Ferris wheel that offers a great view of the city. Fast-paced attractions such as the ‘Break Dance’ and the ‘Musikexpress’ are also represented. In between, numerous lottery and sales stands as well as food stalls offering a variety of culinary delicacies invite visitors to linger.

Highlights and programme: The festival begins on Friday evening at 6 p.m. with the official tapping of the keg. A special highlight is Monday, which is traditionally celebrated as Family Day. On this day, there are reduced prices at most rides and stalls. The festival culminates on Monday evening at around 10 p.m. with a large fireworks display that lights up the sky above Papenburg.

The Papenburg August Market is known for its exuberant and family-friendly atmosphere and attracts thousands of visitors from the region every year who look forward to entertainment, conviviality and tradition.
