About the Park
In the Hanseatic city of Stralsund, located in the north-east of Germany in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Ozeaneum, which belongs to the German Oceanographic Museum Foundation, has been located on the harbour island since July 2008. On around 8,700 square metres of exhibition space, which is divided into the five themed areas "Oceans - Diversity of Life", "Baltic Sea - The Sea in Our Midst", "Exploration and Use of the Seas", "Sea for Children" and "1:1 Giants of the Seas", there are around 50 aquariums with a wide variety of animals from the Baltic Sea, North Sea and North Atlantic. Here you can marvel at jellyfish, sturgeons, herrings, mackerel, various rays and sharks or Humboldt penguins. The highlight of the Ozeaneum is undoubtedly the 2.6 million litre tunnel aquarium with an 11 metre long shipwreck and the underwater world of the Atlantic. The Ozeaneum provides knowledge about the various underwater worlds all year round and is not only a popular excursion destination for tourists.
