About the Park
The Nürtingen May Day is the traditional festival of the schools and the Nürtingen ‘bank holidays’ par excellence. First documented in 1602, the Nürtingen May Day is one of the oldest children's and local festivals in south-west Germany. Over the centuries, May Day developed from an excursion by schoolchildren ‘into the Maien’ to a spring festival and finally to the traditional Nürtingen local festival. To this day, it is shaped by the Nürtingen schools: from the cheerful Maisingen on the evening before to the colourful parade, where the pupils present current and historical themes with great creativity, to the performances and sporting competitions on the festival meadow. The fairground with the latest rides provides plenty of thrills, while a large catering area with a beer garden and cosy tent awaits visitors.
