Neuenrade - Gertrüdchen

In the heart of Neuenrade, the traditional "Gertrüdchen" festival takes place in the park area around the town hall, with a funfair, a market, a horse market, a hobby art exhibition and much more.

A large number of showmen and market traders offer their services; the culinary offerings are also impressive. The obligatory Gertruden schnapps is served again and can be enjoyed with music and dancing.

Many visitors from near and far have been coming to this popular folk festival for years to meet friends and acquaintances and celebrate together.

The history:

Every year around St Gertrude's Day (mid-March), the first Jahr-, Kram-, Pferdemarkt takes place with a large funfair, creative market and more. Many offers enrich the festival.

Traditionally, the Gertrüdchen was the first market of the year to sell horses and buy new household goods. This offer can still be found at the Gertrüdchen today. Later, the popular "Bubabitter", a herbal schnapps created by the local pharmacist, was added, which was sold in abundance during the festival days (Friday to Sunday). There is now a delicious pharmacist's schnapps again.

Today, young and old meet at the Gertrüdchen and people from out of town also like to take advantage of the first big market after the winter.
