About the Park
Every year, the Christmas market in Meppen creates a particularly festive and lively atmosphere, bathing the city centre in a warm, wintery sea of lights. As the days grow shorter and a touch of frost settles on the rooftops, the historic city centre around the town hall, Ludmilla Church and market square is transformed into an idyllic Christmas setting. Fairy lights stretch across the alleys, stalls are decorated with fir greenery and red bows, and the air is filled with the smell of cinnamon, baked apples, mulled wine and freshly roasted almonds.
In addition to the traditional wooden stalls offering artistic handicrafts, thoughtful gift ideas, regional specialities and Christmas decorations, two attractions form the heart of the market: the large ice rink and the Ferris wheel. The ice rink invites young and old alike to get moving, laugh and glide across the smooth ice amidst the Christmas backdrop. In the evening, when the spotlights cast a warm light over the ice rink and the music plays softly, an almost magical atmosphere is created that delights families, couples and friends alike.
The Ferris wheel towers above the market as a shining eye-catcher. At dusk, its gondolas glisten as they turn, offering a wonderful view of Meppen from above – over rooftops, church towers, rows of lights and the sparkling Christmas tree on the square. Especially at nightfall, the view looks like a small winter wonderland spreading out below.
The Christmas market also offers a wide range of musical and cultural activities. Choirs, music groups and brass ensembles provide contemplative but also cheerful sounds that echo through the streets. Children can take part in craft activities, decorate cookies, visit the carousel or meet Santa Claus, who traditionally hands out little surprises.
What sets the Christmas market in Meppen apart is its warm and down-to-earth atmosphere. Despite its attractions, it remains a place for people to meet: people get together for a glass of mulled wine, families spend time together, visitors stroll leisurely through the rows and soak up the special atmosphere. The focus here is not on consumption, but on being together, looking forward to the festivities and enjoying small moments.
Every year, the Christmas market in Meppen becomes a place where memories are made – warm, friendly and atmospheric, just like the Advent season itself.
