Magdeburg - Weihnachtsmarkt

The Magdeburg Christmas market is considered one of the most attractive markets in Saxony-Anhalt and transforms the historic Alter Markt in the state capital into an atmospheric Christmas village during Advent. It is nestled against the backdrop of the town hall and the Reiter, giving it a traditional yet lively flair.

The centrepiece of the market is a festively decorated tall Christmas tree and a Christmas pyramid. The approximately 120 lovingly decorated huts offer a wide range of handicrafts from the Harz and Ore Mountains, including wood carvings and ceramics, as well as modern gift ideas.

There is a strong focus on culinary delights: in addition to traditional mulled wine, punch and the typical Christmas stollen, visitors can enjoy regional specialities such as Magdeburg lard cakes and hearty bratwurst sausages.

For the youngest visitors, there is the ‘Historical Christmas Village’ in the upper part of the Old Market, where craftsmen such as blacksmiths and bakers demonstrate their skills and attractions such as a fairy-tale forest and a puppet theatre provide entertainment. A large Ferris wheel and other rides also offer spectacular views over the illuminated city and provide additional enjoyment.
