Kreischa - Jahrmarkt

The Kreischa Fair is a traditional folk festival in the municipality of Kreischa, south of Dresden, which looks back on a long and impressive history. It has developed from a simple market place into one of the most important festivals in the region.

The roots of the Kreischa Fair go back a long way:

- 1769: The fair was first mentioned in documents in this year and confirmed by Elector Friedrich Christian. At that time, it always took place on a specific day in autumn.

- Historical significance: The fair originally served not only as a place of entertainment, but was above all an important cattle and general market. Traders and farmers from across the region came here to do business. It was an important economic factor and a social highlight in the farming calendar.

- Transition to modern times: Over time, the market lost its original significance as a pure livestock market. Entertainment offerings such as rides and food stalls came to the fore, and the annual fair developed into the folk festival we know today. Despite this change, it has retained its traditional character and its role as a meeting place for the community.
