About the Park
The Montbéliard Christmas Lights (Les Lumières de Noël) is an annual event that transforms Montbéliard in the Franche-Comté region of France into a veritable city of lights (Cité des Lumières) during Advent. This market is considered one of the most beautiful and atmospheric Christmas markets in France and attracts visitors from all over Europe.
The main attraction is the spectacular illuminations that give the event its name: over 100,000 to 115,000 environmentally friendly LED lights create a fairytale trail of lights throughout the city. The old town is decorated with magnificent Italian-style arches of lights that guide visitors to the heart of the market. Historic landmarks such as the Castle of the Dukes of Württemberg and the Town Hall are highlighted by elaborate light displays. Particularly impressive is the 100-metre-long avenue of lights, which offers an immersive experience.
The traditional Christmas market takes place around the Temple Saint-Martin and the Place Saint-Martin and is characterised by its authenticity and high quality. Around 150 to 170 carefully selected artisans and producers offer French handicrafts, regional products from Franche-Comté and Christmas decorations. Due to its historical connection to the Dukes of Württemberg, the market cultivates a festive, warm and culinary tradition that is typical of the Alsatian and southern German Christmas markets. An annual guest of honour representing a region or country further enriches the market; in 2025, for example, this will be Corrèze with its crafts and specialities. The gourmet alley invites visitors to enjoy unmissable local specialities such as the famous Saucisse de Montbéliard, gingerbread, mulled wine and other delicacies.
The whole experience is complemented by a rich programme of entertainment: one highlight is the traditional Children of Light Choir (Concert des Enfants de la Lumière), where children sing Christmas carols with lanterns. Santa's hut and the little elves' workshop offer special activities for children. Various street performers, concerts and Christmas parades contribute to the festive atmosphere.
