Kiel - Weihnachtsmarkt

The Kiel Christmas Market is a diverse ensemble spread across the city centre, divided into several unique themed areas in the central squares.

The heart of the festivities is the Kiel Christmas Village on Rathausplatz. It has a particularly romantic, Nordic-Scandinavian atmosphere. The huts are designed in the style of Swedish wooden houses and evoke the flair of a cosy, colourful village. The highlight of this square is the elf flight: several times a day, a mini cog pulled by reindeer glides over the market while the elf Ki(e)lian tells his story. In addition, a historic carousel from 1900 invites visitors to linger.

Just a short walk away, the market on Asmus-Bremer-Platz beckons. This square is best known for its monumental 12.5-metre-high Christmas pyramid, which serves as a shining meeting point even from a distance. The lighting of the pyramid and the surrounding stalls create a cosy place that invites visitors to linger over savoury and sweet treats. This market area often has the advantage of remaining open beyond the Christmas holidays until the turn of the year.

The third important location, Holstenplatz, presents itself as the original Kiel Christmas market. Here, visitors can enjoy a balanced mix of arts and crafts and culinary delights. The square is traditionally a central attraction for winter strolls and entices visitors with atmospheric lighting created by numerous LED stars in the trees and fairy lights on the gables of the stalls, creating a Hanseatic cosiness in the middle of the pedestrian zone.

The individual squares are connected by the festively decorated city centre, making the Christmas market in Kiel a large, varied and atmospheric overall experience.
