Karlsruhe - Christkindlesmarkt

The Christkindlesmarkt forms the traditional heart of the event and is divided into two main areas: the so-called ‘Lichtweihnacht’ (Christmas of Lights) unfolds on the market square against the backdrop of the iconic pyramid and the town hall. Here, the Flying Santa Claus, who spectacularly hovers over the heads of visitors several times a day in his reindeer sleigh, provides a unique spectacle. In addition, the illuminated Ferris wheel offers a magnificent panoramic view of the city's sea of lights. The second part of the market, the ‘Forest Christmas’ on Friedrichsplatz, offers a romantic and idyllic atmosphere. Designed as an enchanted forest, this area attracts visitors with exquisite handicrafts and covered seating areas, known as the ‘Karls-Ruhe-Plätzle’.

The Stadtwerke Karlsruhe WINTERZEIT extends beyond the Advent season, providing winter fun until January. The absolute highlight of this part is the huge open-air ice rink in front of the illuminated, majestic backdrop of Karlsruhe's baroque palace. Often described as the largest ice rink in southern Germany, this area invites visitors to go ice skating and curling on an adjoining circular path, transforming the historic palace square into a dreamlike winter landscape. A cosy winter village around the ice rink also provides visitors with mulled wine and winter specialities, perfectly rounding off the festive atmosphere of Karlsruhe's ‘Christmas city’.
