Jena - Weihnachtsmarkt

The Christmas market in the City of Light Jena has a 200-year-old tradition and is one of the most beautiful markets in the whole of Thuringia. Traditionally, the Jena Christmas market opens with the popular cutting of a 4 metre long giant stollen and the subsequent tower blowing.

No wonder so many visitors find their way to Jena before Christmas. Around 60 atmospherically decorated stalls offer all the little and big treasures, gifts and treats that enchant everyone in a pre-Christmas atmosphere. The mighty and brightly lit Christmas tree in the centre of the historic market square, Thuringia's tallest Christmas pyramid on Eichplatz and the historic Christmas market between Johannistor and Pulverturm invite you to stroll and linger.

The highlight for many guests is the daily Christmas tower blowing.

From the window of the historic town hall tower, musicians from the Carl Zeiss Jena e. V. brass band play Christmas carols every day from 5 pm - and have been doing so for over 25 years.
