Hechingen - Irma-West-Kinder- und Heimatfest

The Irma West Children's and Local History Festival in Hechingen is much more than just an ordinary fair – it is the emotional heart of the town's calendar of events and one of the most traditional celebrations at the foot of Hohenzollern Castle. Named after Irma West, the daughter of a generous Hechingen entrepreneur who died at an early age, the festival has always been dedicated to young people and a love of home.

Every July, the festival grounds around the fairground in Weiher are transformed into a lively festival mile. While the classic amusement park with modern rides and stalls provides the necessary hustle and bustle, it is the supporting programme that gives the ‘Irma West’ its unique character. From the festive fanfare parades to the historical performances, the town breathes history during these days.

An absolute highlight is the grand parade, in which schools, clubs and marching bands parade through the streets in magnificent costumes. The flag throwers and the traditional children's festivals on the market square in particular create an atmosphere that connects generations. Culinary delights are also provided: the festival tents and stalls offer Swabian specialities that are perfect for convivial get-togethers.

The festival traditionally ends with a brilliant fireworks display that bathes the silhouette of the city and the nearby castle in magical light. It is this mixture of deep historical roots and exuberant folk festival atmosphere that makes the Irma West Festival a must-see event for the entire Neckar-Alb region.
