Halle (Saale) - Weihnachtsmarkt

The Christmas market in Halle (Saale) is actually a collection of several markets with different themes, spread across the historic old town during Advent, with the main market taking place on the market square.

The market square forms the traditional and largest centre. It is surrounded by historic buildings such as the Red Tower and the Market Church. Here stands the lovingly decorated large Christmas tree, often complemented by a nativity scene and a fairy-tale forest for children. At around 95 to 100 stalls, visitors will find a wide range of traditional handicrafts, decorative items, sweet treats and hot drinks. A special feature is the Finnish village, which brings a special flair to the city on the Saale with Nordic specialities such as flambéed salmon and glögi.

Another important part of the festivities is the ‘Winter Magic’ at Hallmarkt. This area, which often remains open into January, offers a large Ferris wheel in a wintery setting, from which visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the festively illuminated city, as well as additional rides and delicacies.

The Christmas offerings are complemented by other smaller markets such as the Hüttenzauber on Domplatz, which is considered an insider tip with its hearty treats and cosy lounge atmosphere, and markets in front of Ulrichskirche and the opera house.

The Halle Christmas market is known for its extensive cultural programme, which ranges from carillon concerts on Europe's largest glockenspiel in the Red Tower to daily visits from Santa Claus at the nativity scene. Divided into different themed areas, the city of Halle offers a diverse and expansive Christmas atmosphere.
