Gera - Märchenmarkt

The Christmas market in Gera is known nationwide as the Gera Fairy Tale Market and is one of the most atmospheric Advent markets in Thuringia. It transforms the historic city center around the market square into an enchanting fairy tale landscape that makes the hearts of young and old beat faster. The special attraction is the life-size figures from the famous Grimm's fairy tales, more than 30 of which are lovingly set up in the alleys every year, taking visitors on a journey into the world of Hansel and Gretel or Sleeping Beauty. The market is traditionally opened with a festive spectacle in which a fairy of light reveals the central fairy tale of the year with an impressive light and laser show. In addition to this unique decoration, the market offers a rich selection of Christmas crafts and delicious Thuringian specialties such as grilled bratwurst, Mutzbraten, and a variety of mulled wines. The fairy tale market stretches from the pedestrian zones to the historic town hall and runs for several weeks from the start of Advent, spreading a unique, family-friendly Christmas atmosphere.
