Geilenkirchen - Pfingstmarkt

The Geilenkirchen Whitsun market is without doubt one of the most popular folk festivals in the region. What began over 550 years ago with the performances of jugglers and market criers on the market square in the centre of the town has developed over the last few decades into a huge funfair for young and old and the whole family. The impressive attendance of well over 25,000 people in recent years is testament to the popularity of the large funfair far beyond the city limits. With numerous rides, stalls and sales stands of all kinds, the Whitsun market is held from the Friday before to the Tuesday after Whitsun and ends on Tuesday evening with a large fireworks display.

In addition to the funfair hustle and bustle, for some years now the Krammarkt has attracted around 50 traders in the tranquil Wurmauenpark with a rich and sometimes high-quality range of arts and crafts, gift and decorative items, floristry, jewellery as well as leather and household goods. The market square is seamlessly linked to the fairground, so that visitors have direct access to the Krammarkt from here. However, the Krammarkt forms a separate entity alongside the Whitsun funfair, which takes place at the same time.
