About the Park
With its long tradition, the Fulda Schützen- und Volksfest is one of the events in Fulda that attracts thousands of locals and tourists every year. We know from old documents that a marksmen's festival was held in Fulda as early as 1327 - at that time still in the Rosenau on the banks of the Fulda. A marksmen's club was first mentioned in Fulda in 1572, and the tradition of marksmen and their festivals continues to run like a red thread through Fulda's local history.
For 76 years - interrupted only by two Corona years in 2020/21 - the shooting and folk festival has been held annually under the aegis of the Distel family in Fulda, since the mid-1950s on the traditional Ochsenwiese festival site. Against this background, my special thanks go to the Distel general contractor and all the showmen who have remained loyal to Fulda over the years. I would also like to say a big thank you to the Fulda Shooting Club, which, with its more than 450 years of history, is the oldest club in our city and maintains our traditions, thus creating a new piece of Fulda's identity every year.
The Schützen- und Volksfest is a festival for all Fulda residents and guests. It is a great opportunity to socialise with old and new residents, make new contacts and maintain old friendships. But of course there is also plenty of thrills and fun to be had on the rides. This makes the festival a wonderful addition to the city's programme of events, because one thing is certain: people know how to celebrate in Fulda! This year, for example, it is the open-air concerts of the Domplatzkonzerte or the performances of the Musical Summer, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, that will attract many people to Fulda in the summer.
Together with the Distel family, the festival host and the sponsors as well as all those involved in the fairground industry, we are hoping for the best weather and a peaceful and cheerful atmosphere on the festival grounds. I look forward to your visit!
