Freizeitpark Sommerrodelbahn

The Sommerrodelbahn amusement park in Ibbenbüren, in the middle of the Teutoburg Forest and not far from the impressive Dörenther Cliffs, is a charming destination for families, nature lovers and fans of nostalgic amusement parks. Founded in 1926 by a miner from Ibbenbüren, it is one of the oldest summer toboggan runs still in existence in Germany. Visitors can whizz down the slope on real wooden sledges and enjoy an experience that combines tradition and fun in a unique way.

Over the decades, the site has been continuously expanded: the fairy tale forest, opened in 1958, brings eleven fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm to life, while the ‘Journey Around the World’ takes visitors on a mini world tour with miniature scenes from different countries. For the youngest guests, the nostalgic Oldtimer Express, a small railway that chugs across the grounds, provides additional entertainment. The offer is rounded off by a spacious adventure playground and numerous picnic areas that invite visitors to linger.

The park's attractions are aimed at young and old alike. In addition to the summer toboggan run itself, families can experience the adventures of Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf and the seven dwarfs in the fairy tale forest or explore the miniature world tour. The vintage express and the adventure playground offer further opportunities to let off steam, while the idyllic surroundings of the Teutoburg Forest provide a natural backdrop for a relaxing day in the countryside.

The park is usually open from April to October, with free admission to the grounds and fees charged only for the use of individual attractions.
