Freiburg - Weihnachtsmarkt

The Freiburg Christmas Market is one of the most atmospheric and traditional markets in Baden-Württemberg and is a highlight of the winter events calendar in this charming Black Forest town. It takes place mainly on the historic Town Hall Square and often extends to Franziskanerplatz.

The market is characterised by its picturesque location in the heart of the historic old town, surrounded by the Gothic architecture of the Old and New Town Halls, which is particularly accentuated by festive lighting. The approximately 130 stalls offer a rich selection of handcrafted products, including traditional Black Forest wood carvings, glassblowing, ceramics and handmade candles.

In terms of cuisine, the market is all about regional and Christmas specialities: in addition to classic mulled wine and punch, typical Black Forest delicacies such as Schupfnudeln, Flammkuchen and Badische Bratwurst are on offer. A cosy atmosphere is created for visitors, enhanced by the scent of cinnamon, cloves and fresh pastries. Particularly noteworthy are the nativity scene and a children's area, which make the market an experience for the whole family. The Freiburg Christmas Market thus combines Black Forest cosiness with a rich cultural offering and festive anticipation.
