About the Park
The oldest and highest falconry in Hesse, Falkenhof Großer Feldberg, is located on the Feldberg plateau in the Hochtaunus district of southern Hesse, more precisely in Schmitten im Taunus. In addition to hunting and working with birds of prey, a rescue and care centre for sick and injured birds of prey has been in operation here since 1965. Around 30 different bird species such as eagles, buzzards, jackdaws, owls, falcons, kites, eagle owls and laughing eagles can be admired here alongside various reptiles and ferrets. The aim of the Falkenhof Großer Feldberg is to bring people closer to birds of prey and explain something about their biology, behaviour and habitat. The falconers also want to educate people about falconry, which originated in Asia and has been practised for thousands of years. In the summer months, the afternoon free flight demonstration is certainly the highlight of every day at the Falkenhof Großer Feldberg. The falconry centre is open all year round with seasonal restrictions and is located approx. 35 km north-west of Frankfurt am Main.
