Once upon a time ... DOCTOR KNOW-ALL

A poor farmer named Krebs drives his wagon into the city and sells wood to a doctor.
He sees how splendidly he lives as a doctor and asks, after he has amazed enough, what he must do to become a doctor.
The doctor advises him to sell the wagon and the ox, to buy an ABC book and elegant clothes from the money as well es
a sign with the words "Doctor All-knowing," which he should have nailed over his door.
The farmer follows the advice.

After being tortured for a while with moderate success, he is called to a rich man who has been robbed a large sum of money.
Together with his wife Grethe, he lets himself be driven to the court of the noble gentleman in order to get to the bottom of the matter.
The spouses are invited to join the meal that is being served by the servants. Bauer Krebs murmurs to his Grethe:
"That was the first," meaning the first course of the meal.
But the servant refers this remark to themself - because he is one of the thieves.
Worried give he his suspicions about Doctor All-knowing to his cronies, who wait outside the door to apply the rest of the meal.
In fact, the second and third and fourth servants are much the same as the first: the Doctor murmurs to his wife:
"This is the second" or "That's the third". At the fourth course, the doctor is asked to give a sample of his omniscience:
he should guess what is in the covered bowl the fourth servant is applying. This time, Doctor Know-All mumbles:

"Oh, I poor Krebs" (since he does not know), which goes through as the right answer, because in the bowl are crabs.
The four thieving servants are convinced that Doctor Know-All actually knows everything and feels caught.
They wave him to him and offer him a handsome sum, so that he does not betray them.
They also show him the place where they hid the stolen money.
Then the doctor goes back to his client in the dining room and leafs through his clever ABC book, supposedly to find out where the stolen money is.
After showing the hiding place to the lord, he also receives a decent reward from him. Thanks to this brilliant achievement, he becomes a famous man and has taken care of.

Welcome, welcome, I heard, from far away you came ...
So begins Dr. Know-All his conversation.
