About the Park
In the Rhine-Sieg district of North Rhine-Westphalia, or rather in Königswinter, around 14 kilometres from the former German capital Bonn, you will find the Drachenwelt Königswinter. Here, halfway up Drachenfels, you can immerse yourself in the legendary world of the Nibelungs, one of the most important legends of the 13th century. Visit the Nibelungen Hall, built in 1913 to mark the 100th anniversary of Richard Wagner's birth, which houses one of the most important collections of paintings relating to the Ring of the Nibelung, or if you prefer something a little more mysterious, visit the Dragon's Cave and Fafnir, the dragon and guardian of the Rhine gold. This thirteen metre long moss-covered dragon made of concrete was created by Franz Josef Krings, architect and sculptor, in 1933 to mark the 50th anniversary of Richard Wagner's death. You can meet "real" dragons at the reptile zoo. More than 100 reptiles from North and South America, Australia, India, Indonesia, Africa, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands live in over forty terrariums. All year round you can experience the dragon world of Königswinter and marvel at the paintings, Fafnir and the reptiles of the zoo.
