Dortmund - Hansemarkt

The Hansemarkt Dortmund is a traditional and diverse autumn folk festival that transforms Dortmund's city centre into a lively journey back in time to the heyday of the Hanseatic League, emphasising Dortmund's historical significance as an important Hanseatic city in the 12th and 13th centuries.

The market extends across several central squares such as Reinoldikirchplatz, Kleppingstraße and Alter Markt, offering a unique blend of historical fair, farmers' market and craft market. At the heart of the event is a comprehensive historical programme that brings the past to life with all the senses:

On Reinoldikirchplatz and in the surrounding area, visitors can immerse themselves in a medieval world where they can experience knight fights, jugglers, acrobatics and spectacular fire shows, accompanied by medieval music and bagpipe sounds. Kleppingstraße becomes a farmers' market and crafts mile, where traditional, ancient crafts such as blacksmithing, basket weaving and coin minting are demonstrated, often with hands-on activities for young and old alike. The Old Market hosts a charming nostalgic fair with historical rides such as the swan flyer, the caterpillar train and a nostalgic Ferris wheel, creating an atmosphere from another time. The culinary offerings are equally diverse, ranging from regional specialities and historical recipes to traditional drinks such as mead. The Hansemarkt is known for its atmospheric ambience, which is enhanced by autumnal decorations and atmospheric lighting, and often includes a Sunday shopping day, combining historical flair with the modern shopping pleasures of the city centre.
