About the Park
Every year in November, the popular Martinikirmes takes place. It is a real highlight: every year many people in the Ruhr area and the Lower Rhine region look forward to this particularly beautiful fair.
The feast day of St. Martin of Tours on 11 November - known as "Martini" for short - had a special significance in Dinslaken as the last market day in the year before Christmas. On this day, rent payments were due, wages paid and prices fixed. The beginnings of the Martini fair, on the other hand, are more difficult to date; Martini can only be documented as a fair day for 1906. However, celebrations had already been held on church holidays for a long time, and the town was admonished as early as 1834 to prevent debauchery and the generous extension of the various funfairs.
The locations of the Martinikirmes changed over the years from the Altmarkt to Neustraße and Neutorplatz to the trotting track. The Martinikirmes is known and popular far beyond the city limits of Dinslaken.
