Dessau - Adventsmarkt

The Dessau Advent Market takes place in the Bauhaus city of Dessau in Saxony-Anhalt and is traditionally concentrated on the central market square, surrounded by the town hall and St. Mary's Church. This market is characterised by a contemplative atmosphere that reflects the anticipation of Christmas in a mixture of tradition and modern flair.

At the centre of the Advent market is a festively decorated, tall Christmas tree that lights up the market square with its lights. All around are numerous Christmas-decorated stalls presenting a diverse selection of regional handicrafts and Christmas products. Here, visitors will find handmade jewellery, ceramics, wooden toys and other lovingly designed gift ideas. Products from the surrounding Anhalt-Bitterfeld region are also often available.

The Dessau Advent market offers classic winter specialities. In addition to various types of mulled wine and punch, visitors can enjoy hearty dishes such as Thuringian bratwurst (often with a regional twist), potato pancakes and sweet treats such as roasted almonds, crêpes and stollen. The smells of cinnamon, mulled wine and pine fill the air and create a cosy atmosphere.

For younger visitors, there is often a children's carousel and other attractions. A varied stage programme with local choirs, brass bands and Christmas performances provides musical entertainment and enhances the festive atmosphere.
