About the Park
An old Bavarian gem
The famous Dachau Folk Festival, with its more than 350-year history that began with horse races, is an outstanding event of its kind every year for all of Upper and also for large parts of Swabia.
It is easy to explain where the unique atmosphere comes from, which all visitors rave about and which makes them mark this date very thickly in their calendars every year. Situated in the middle of the city of Dachau, bordered by the beautiful silhouette of the old town and the river Amper, the perfect interplay of marquees, fairground rides and many fairground businesses creates a truly unique folk festival. If you stroll through the crowded streets of stalls in the evening hours, you will meet thousands of like-minded people who still want to experience a real old Bavarian folk festival, the likes of which are unfortunately hard to find elsewhere.
Whether it's the old organs on the rides that bring back memories of your own childhood, the diverse rides for every age group, the many stalls with their delicious offerings, the imaginatively decorated marquees with their beer gardens, anyone who has been to the Dachau Folk Festival is drawn back every year. With over 300,000 enthusiastic visitors every year, the Dachau Folk Festival is one of the magnets among these festivals.
Every year at the beginning of August (around the feast day of the Assumption) it is folk festival time and folk festival lovers come to Dachau from far and wide. One of the reasons for this annual rush, apart from the unique atmosphere mentioned above, is certainly that the folk festival is really easy to reach. Most visitors come by S-Bahn, and it is only a stone's throw (5 minutes) from the station to the festival site.
Families in particular always enjoy coming to the Dachau Folk Festival, and not only because of the Children's Day and the additional Family Day. Families can spend wonderful hours here in a cheerful atmosphere.
A special attraction at the Dachau Folk Festival is of course the annual fireworks display, which creates an almost unearthly atmosphere when it unfolds its colourful splendour high above Dachau Castle. Visitors come from far and wide to see this firework display, which is one of the largest in southern .
