Cottbus - Weihnachtsmarkt der 1000 Sterne

The Christmas market of 1,000 stars in Cottbus is considered the largest and probably also the most luminous Christmas market in the Spreewald region and is deeply rooted in Brandenburg tradition. Its characteristic and eponymous feature is the impressive decoration that bathes the entire city centre, and especially the main square, in a magical light: over 1,000 Herrnhut stars shining in the traditional red and white colours of Cottbus, creating an incomparable sea of lights. The market is concentrated in the historic Old Market Square, which is dominated by a large, often three-storey Christmas pyramid. Here, visitors will find a variety of festively decorated stalls offering traditional handicrafts, regional specialities and international delicacies, accompanied by the scent of mulled wine and roasted almonds. A large Ferris wheel provides a panoramic view of the sparkling sea of lights. The market also offers a varied cultural programme with choirs, brass bands and daily visits from Santa Claus, making it a central and festive meeting place in the run-up to Christmas.
