About the Park
The Butzbach Faselmarkt is one of the oldest and most important folk festivals in Upper Hesse and looks back on over 500 years of history. Originally created purely as a cattle market where breeding animals – known as ‘Faselvieh’ in the Hessian dialect – were traded, the event has developed into a modern, multi-day major event that enlivens the historic old town and the adjacent fairground every year in March.
The market covers several areas of the town and combines traditional market activities with modern fairground entertainment. A huge market takes place in the winding alleys of the old town, where hundreds of traders offer their wares for sale. The range of goods on offer extends from practical household goods and textiles to handcrafted specialities and regional products. This market area preserves the original commercial character of the festival and invites visitors to take a leisurely stroll against the backdrop of the magnificent half-timbered houses.
At the same time, the fairground is transformed into a lively entertainment mile. Here, visitors will find a wide selection of rides, ranging from fast-paced attractions for adrenaline seekers to family-friendly classics such as bumper cars and the Ferris wheel. Especially for children, there are numerous carousels and game booths that are sure to make their eyes light up. The smell of freshly roasted almonds, candyfloss and hearty specialities such as bratwurst and Hessian Ebbelwoi is an integral part of the experience and creates a welcoming, convivial atmosphere.
Another key feature of the Faselmarkt is its connection to trade and agriculture. Regional companies present their services and innovations at a large exhibition, making the market an important information platform for the region. Combining a traditional market, a modern fair and an economic exhibition, the Faselmarkt in Butzbach is a meeting place for all generations and traditionally marks the beginning of the warm season in Wetterau.
