Bunde - Pfingstmarkt

The traditional Bunder Whitsun Fair attracts large numbers of visitors every year to the historic town centre around the Kirchring. The grand opening is traditionally heralded by a gun salute, followed by the giving away of free rides for children at the fairground attractions. Beforehand, a prayer service sets the mood for the festivities, whilst brass bands provide the perfect musical backdrop. A special highlight of the first day of the market is a grand fireworks display late in the evening, which lights up the sky above the fairground.

Over the following days, the town centre is transformed into a colourful fairground. Around forty different showmen, rides such as bumper cars and carousels, as well as various stalls offering culinary delights, invite visitors to stroll around. Another popular attraction is the large family flea market, which stretches through the adjacent streets and is reserved exclusively for private sellers. Even on the eve of the market’s opening, the local fire brigades compete in a speed contest, which gets the village community in a festive mood.

The market traditionally concludes with Bunde Day. This final day is aimed specifically at families and offers not only reduced prices on the rides but also a colourful children’s programme with entertainment and face painting. For those travelling by car, large car parks are available around the event site at the local supermarkets, whilst a secure parking area is provided for cyclists.
