Bühl - Zwetschgenfest

The cultivation and marketing of the Bühl plum after the First World War helped the town of Bühl and its citizens to enjoy an economic boom and prosperity. The Bühl plum was and still is a household name throughout Germany and beyond. The memory of this incredible success story has been kept alive for decades with our plum festival and has also been honoured in our additional designation ‘Plum Town’ since 2023.

The plum festival celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2024. At the matinee, city archivist Marco Müller took visitors on a journey through the highly interesting history of the ‘Bühler Früchtchen’ and the plum festival under the motto ‘A celebration of blue gold’. Elements of the programme and decorations were also reminiscent of earlier times, such as the serenade concert by the town band in the town garden with simultaneous illumination or blue and yellow ‘Spättle’ over the streets around the town hall.

In addition to the three stages with live music in the town garden, the wine village and the marquee, traditional visitor attractions at the Zwetschgenfest naturally include the amusement park - the largest along the Rhine between Basel and Karlsruhe - and the parade, which was attended by more than 60 groups and around 1,500 participants in the anniversary year. The new float of the Plum Queen also celebrated its premiere on this day.
