Bremerhaven - Weihnachtsmarkt

During Advent, the Bremerhaven Christmas market transforms the city centre of this maritime town into an extensive, enchanting Christmas wonderland that combines maritime flair with festive cheer. The market mainly stretches along Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße, the central pedestrian zone, from Theodor-Heuss-Platz to Keilstraße, offering an atmospheric promenade.

What makes Bremerhaven special is the intense glow of lights and the diverse, walk-in illuminations and light objects, which serve as popular photo motifs and create an enchanting atmosphere. At the entrance, a festively decorated fir tree towers into the sky. A special highlight is the 30-metre-high Ferris wheel on Theodor-Heuss-Platz, which guarantees a spectacular panoramic view of the illuminated Christmas world and the city centre.

Numerous festively decorated stalls line the path and offer a wide range of Christmas treats such as mulled wine, poffertjes, bratwurst and roasted almonds. The culinary offerings are complemented by stalls run by local artisans, who present lovingly crafted products.

The fairy tale huts are a must for younger visitors. These huts adorn the path to the Great Church and bring lovingly designed characters from well-known fairy tales such as ‘Hansel and Gretel’ or ‘The Hare and the Hedgehog’ to life. The market is often accompanied by a colourful, free supporting programme, which can include activities such as a Santa Claus parade, various walking acts and fire shows, making a visit a convivial experience for all age groups.
