Bockhorner Markt

The Bockhorn Market is one of the largest and most traditional folk festivals in Lower Saxony. It takes place every year on the third weekend in September and is known far beyond the boundaries of the municipality. The festival is a unique mixture of a traditional cattle and general market and a modern folk festival.

The festivities extend over four days throughout the centre of Bockhorn. It is known for its successful combination of tradition and modern entertainment and attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year.

- The cattle market: The market traditionally begins on Thursday morning with the historic cattle market. Horses, cattle and other farm animals are traded here, giving the festival its original character. This spectacle is a magnet for many early risers.

- Flea market and amusement fair: Throughout the weekend, there is a huge flea market where traders from all over Germany offer their wares. At the same time, a large funfair provides entertainment. With numerous rides, from fast-paced, modern attractions for adrenaline junkies to classic carousels and game booths, there is something for everyone.

- Festival tents and party: Several large festival tents are the heart of the festivities. Here, people celebrate exuberantly, with a daily programme of live music, brass bands and party bands providing entertainment until late into the night.

- Closing: The market ends on Sunday evening, often with fireworks or a musical finale.
