Bochum - Fliegenkirmes Stiepel

Various attractions provide excellent entertainment from Friday to Monday around the Stiepeler village church on Brockhauserstraße and Nettelbeckstraße. The Stiepeler Kirmes – organised by Bochum Marketing GmbH – has always attracted visitors year after year with its special neighbourly flair and the opportunity to meet old acquaintances. Various rides and a wide range of food and drink outlets provide a varied programme over the four days. The name ‘Fliegenkirmes’ (fly fair) is said to have been inspired by the nuisance caused by insects due to the former cattle market. All that remains of the cattle market today is a small animal exhibition, including pedigree poultry. The traditional Bochum fair officially opens on Saturday with this popular cattle market – organised by the Phönix Stiepel e. V. pedigree poultry breeding association – and a barrel of beer tapping.
