About the Park
Every year, when the surrounding fields have been harvested, a funfair begins at the gates of the town of Blomberg on the fairground on the B1, which is one of the most sociable and biggest highlights in the district of Lippe.
The special thing about this funfair, which always begins on the 2nd Friday in September, is not just the flair - it is also Germany's only funfair organised by a district administration.
The Wilbaser Markt, the largest funfair event in Lippe, is already more than 580 years old. But who knows - perhaps the accountants of earlier centuries were not quite so precise and Wilbasen is much older! For the first time, there is an entry in a monastery book from the year 1430, in which entries about "income from the Kermisse" can be found. Not quite as old as the Libori festival in neighbouring Paderborn, whose roots go back to the year 856 and which is therefore a real old-timer, but certainly older than the most famous folk festival in the world, the Munich , which has only been held since 1810.
Almost 300 market traders and showmen provide an extensive range of goods and spectacular experiences in their rides and amusement rides. The Wilbaser Markt opens on Friday afternoon with a traditional beer tapping by the District Administrator of Lippe and ends on Monday with a grand fireworks display.
