About the Park
In Stuer, Mecklenburg, at the southern tip of Lake Plauer, 35 km from Waren an der Müritz, you will find the BÄRENWALD Müritz, opened by the animal welfare organisation Vier Pfoten in 2006. In the near-natural enclosures, where the bears can rediscover their instincts and live out their natural behaviour and roam around, there are currently 13 brown bears that have been rescued from private holdings, circuses or even zoos and now live in the 16-hectare bear sanctuary, which is Western Europe's largest. As brown bears that have been kept in captivity can no longer be released into the wild because they have become too dependent on humans, Vier Pfoten offers them a new home here. You can refresh and consolidate your knowledge about brown bears on the many information boards and through the animal keepers.
