Bad Sobernheim - Johanniskirmes

The Johanniskirmes in Bad Sobernheim is the traditional highlight of the town’s folk festival calendar and, every year on the last weekend in June, transforms the central Johannisplatz into a lively meeting place for the whole region. The four-day festival weekend kicks off on Friday afternoon with the ceremonial raising of the decorated fair tree, followed by the official tapping of the first keg of beer by the town’s leaders, accompanied by music from the local town band. Whilst the evenings are all about conviviality and a lively party atmosphere with live music, Sunday in particular attracts people of all ages. The fair’s Sunday is organised as a big family day, with dance and sports displays by local clubs enriching the programme, whilst the youngest visitors enjoy face painting or visitors refuel with coffee and cake. The fair’s culinary offerings are provided by local restaurateurs and clubs, with the wine stand – serving fine wines from the Nahe region – proving a popular meeting place for connoisseurs. To round off the festivities on Monday, the residents of Bad Sobernheim and their guests gather from late morning for a traditional morning pint to bring the fair to a leisurely close.
