Apolda - Apoldaer Parkfest

Every year in June (14 days after Whitsun), the Park Festival has traditionally been organised in our town for over 70 years.

It was first held in 1926, initiated and organised by the former Beautification Association. A colourful programme for young and old, illuminations in the promenades as well as fireworks, show booths, carousels, sausage and drinks stands attracted around 9,000 visitors to this festival even back then. In 1954, after a 15-year hiatus due to the war and post-war years, the town of Apolda revived the tradition of the park and local history festival with the ‘Festival of 10,000 Lights’.

During the construction work for the State Garden Show, the park festival was relocated to the centre of the town on the market square from 2014 to 2017.

The festival is organised annually with many events for visitors of all ages on the festival meadow in the Herressener Promenade. During the week of the event, the fairground shops are open daily from 15:00.

Wednesday is the traditional family day with reduced prices. Apoldaer Wasser GmbH, the Weimarer Land District Sports Association and Apoldaer Leichtathletikverein 90 e. V. traditionally organise an ‘Environment Day’ on Wednesdays. The programme includes a kindergarten sports festival, a relay race for primary schools and a city run over various distances.
