About the Park
Blå Planet is the largest aquarium in Northern Europe. Located in Copenhagen, right on the waterfront and less than two kilometers from the city’s airport, it is home to over 450 species. Originally established in Charlottenlund in 1939 with around 70 tanks, it moved to its current location in 2013. There was room for expansion there, so today the aquarium holds more than seven times the amount of water. Divided into five areas, flora and fauna are added according to theme. For example, in the rainforest area, you’ll find a large waterfall and a school of piranhas, and in the “warm ocean” area, a large tank with a glass tunnel. In total, the “Big Five” of the oceans are on display: otters, hammerhead sharks, stingrays, octopuses, and arapaimas, which, at up to two meters in length, are the largest freshwater fish in the world.
