About the Park
Copenhagen Zoo, located in the Danish capital, is Denmark’s oldest zoo and also one of the oldest zoos in Europe. It opened in 1859 and has since expanded to cover an area of 20 hectares. Like some other zoos, it is organized as a geo-zoo, housing animals not by species but by continent and region of origin. Well over 200 animal species call the enclosures home. Copenhagen Zoo specializes in Nordic animals such as bears, wolves, and musk oxen. It is the only place outside of Australia where you can see the Tasmanian devil. With its facilities, it ranks among the best-equipped zoos in Europe. Other highlights and crowd-pleasers include the giraffe house, the elephant house, and the nocturnal animal house.
