About the Park
The Gentse Winterfeesten transform the entire historic city centre of Ghent into an extensive, sparkling winter wonderland that lasts throughout the Advent and Christmas season. The centrepiece of the festivities is the Ghent Christmas Market, which stretches from Sint-Baafsplein to Sint-Veerleplein as a long, continuously decorated area illuminated by thousands of lights and fir branches. This picturesque backdrop is framed by Ghent's historic architecture, such as St. Bavo's Cathedral and the Belfry.
At over 150 festively decorated wooden huts, visitors will find a wide range of traditional handicrafts, unique gifts and a variety of culinary delicacies, with the scent of mulled wine, waffles and local specialities in the air.
Among the outstanding attractions that contribute to the winter festival experience is a large Ferris wheel on Sint-Veerleplein, which offers spectacular views over the illuminated historic city. Another highlight is Belgium's largest mobile ice rink, which provides winter skating fun under fairy lights and is a central meeting place for all ages. In addition, the ‘Winter Wonder Castle’, a winter enchantment of the historic Gravensteen (Castle of the Counts), adds to the magical atmosphere. The Gentse Winterfeesten are characterised by a successful combination of medieval history, festive lighting and a cosy winter atmosphere, making them one of the largest and most popular winter events in Belgium.
