About the Park
Around 32 kilometres southwest of Melbourne lies the small town of Werribee with a population of just over 50,000. The Werribee Open Range Zoo was first opened here in 1983. Unlike many other Australian zoos, the focus here is on African animals. You can see giraffes, hippos and lions in the 225ha area. Visitors can choose from the African River Trail, Australian Trail and Werribee River Trail tours for a guided visit to the zoo. On the tours, zebras, rhinos and antelopes can be seen as well as emus, koalas and kangaroos.
