About the Park
Kyabram is located about 30 kilometres from the New South Wales border and more than 200 kilometres north of Melbourne. It was there that the decision was made to build a fauna park on a piece of arable land that had originally lain fallow for many decades. Thus, in 1976, the Kyabram Fauna Park was established in this small town with a population of just over 10,000. On an area of 55ha, more than 400 animal species are kept for the visitors, many of them indigenous. For example, there are free-range enclosures for emus and kangaroos; the visitor will find the frog's mouth as well as the Tasmanian devil. Besides mammals such as koalas, wombats and echidnas, numerous reptiles (lizards, lace monitors, freshwater crocodiles) and amphibians live in the zoo, and numerous bird species are at home in walk-in aviaries.
