About the Park
The Australian Reptile Park has an eventful history in the truest sense of the word. It all began in 1949 in Umina Beach on the Central Coast, where the Ocean Beach Aquarium was opened by its founder Eric Worrell. The move to Wyoming took place in 1958. The last move in 1996 was an incredible achievement: At that time, they moved man and mouse, every animal and also the well-known mascot Ploddy, a 26-metre-long dinosaur to its current location. Covering an area of almost 9ha, the Reptile Park is located in Sommersby, about 70 kilometres north of Sydney. In addition to its large reptile collection, it has over 50 species of animals. It is also instrumental in the collection of snake and spider venoms (for the production of antivenoms).
